Our Outreach Services enable survivors of domestic and sexual abuse move forward with their lives

What are outreach services?

Our outreach services are available for women, men, and children and young people (aged 4 – 17 years) and offer tailored support, counselling, and practical solutions to ensure you have all the tools necessary to make an informed decision about your future. We can provide a safe space to talk, and where appropriate can arrange for alarms to be fitted to your home or for you to have access to refuge accommodation. We can support you alongside other agencies such as solicitors, housing, benefits and social care, and can provide practical and emotional support through the criminal, civil and family court process.

For children and young people that have either been direct victims of domestic abuse, or have witnessed abuse in the home, we offer a safe and independent space to discuss what has happened and to process their emotions. The outreach support varies, but can include open discussions, play work, work on understanding and regulating emotions, and triggers and coping strategies. This will cover things such as safety and support plans, the emotional and physical signs of stress and anxiety, as well as anger management and diffusion. The work can take place in or out of school and again is dependent on the preference of the individual.

You can self refer for help via our email, phone or text service – all calls and messages are confidential and our trained and friendly staff are always happy to talk with you and explain the options available, so that you can make your own choices about your next steps.

Isla’s Story

Isla has been working with Beth, the children’s worker from Finding Freedom From Abuse, and is finding their 1-2-1 sessions, which take place at school, really helpful to help her understand how she feels. Beth explained to Isla that her job was to speak to children that had seen or experienced nasty things at home and that the room they were talking in was a safe place where she could tell her anything and she wouldn’t get into trouble.

Isla says she likes to see Beth because it feels good to talk about how she is feeling which she doesn’t like to do at home because, ‘Mummy gets sad when I talk about Daddy’. Beth said that it’s okay for her to still love her dad and that all her feelings matter.

Talking to Beth makes her feel safe and listened to, and she looks forward to seeing her every week.
